Every family has their own idea of the Best Family Vacation. Some like to lounge on the beach at an all-inclusive resort, while other families prefer a family road trip. To me, the key to a great vacation is to match expectations to the vacation experience. When a family plans their vacation together, and incorporate what they would each like to do, then it is much more likely that there will be no surprises (disappointments). However, make sure you keep trying new things.
A winter ski/snowboarding vacation has always been my idea of the Best Family Vacation. On the slopes, there are no Gameboys, Play Station and other distractions. The family gets to be together, share the thrill of coming down the slopes together, and have plenty of time to talk (not via a cell phone) on the lifts. Best of all, the kids are tired at night, which gives some special alone time for the parents.
Tell us about your Best Family Vacation; we would love to expand the discussion.
